Green Accomplishments

Successive boards of our community association have made a concerted effort to make our building more sustainable. From 2006-2008, we installed 8000 energy efficient windows; 2000 individual heating and cooling units in our apartments; new energy efficient heating and cooling equipment for our corridors and other common areas; CFL bulbs in our corridors and most common areas. We completed the replacement of our building’s total heating and cooling system in 2013. We have saved more than $1, 500,000 in energy costs since the completion of these projects in addition to significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions that these energy savings represent. We routinely use green cleaning; maintenance and interior renovation materials in our common areas and consider the environmental impacts of all of our facility and housekeeping decisions to protect the health of our staff and our residents.
Our very active resident Green Task Force simplified our recycling system and greatly increased the number of items that we can recycle to achieve an average of 30% reduction in our trash; distributed 1200 CFL bulbs to residents; launched an ongoing public education program to help our residents further our sustainability program ; provide an annual paper shredding day and special collection days for items like unwanted medicine and eyeglasses; and consult regularly with our board and management.
We are all very proud of the strides that we have made to make The Philadelphian a green, if not the greenest, multifamily building in the region and are working continually to improve upon our already outstanding track record.
